LAPTOP Circulation Reaches Record Highs

New York, NY – July 25, 2003 – LAPTOP’s January - June ABC-audited circulation period reports the mobile technology magazine’s highest circulation figures ever. The average circulation was measured at over 96,000, with two issues, March and June, topping 100,000.

This impressive circulation gain is a result of increases in single-copy sales and individual paid subscriptions. Single-copy sales increased 21% over the same period last year, and individual paid subscriptions have hit new highs. Airport terminal sales have shown a dramatic increase, as well. HMS Host ranks LAPTOP as their #2 title in the computer category in unit sales, and ranks #26 overall amongst all titles sold at airports.

“With the recent news that dollar sales of notebook computers have exceeded desktops for the first time, readers are turning to LAPTOP more than ever for reliable advice to aide them in making technology decisions,” says Associate Publisher Carol Berman. “LAPTOP has always anticipated the potential impact of mobile technologies on the workforce and day-to-day life. It’s wonderful to see this translated into circulation growth. In its 12th year of publication, LAPTOP celebrates breaking the 100,000 mark. With this increase in circulation, I’m anticipating Intelliquest’s total audience measurement this year to far exceed 400,000 per issue.”

The appointment of Mark Spoonauer as Editor in Chief earlier this year has been a major catalyst in LAPTOP’s recent growth. His extensive editorial experience and insight into the field of wireless technologies has enhanced the title’s ability to target the products its readers are most interested in and to anticipate growing trends in mobile technology, as with LAPTOP’s increased focus on Wi-Fi and cell phones. An aggressive distribution plan by new distributor, Curtis Circulation Company, has also been a primary factor, providing LAPTOP with the opportunity to break into new outlets, such as Albertson’s, a popular national grocery store chain.

It truly is a testament to the strength of LAPTOP to post circulation gains at a time when the magazine industry in general, and the technology sector specifically, have not prospered. The second half of 2003 is expected to bring continued growth, with two special issues: Ultimate Mobility-The Best of the Best Mobile Products, and the Mobile Technology Sourcebook, finishing off the year. LAPTOP is poised for additional success!

LAPTOP is published 14 times per year by Bedford Communications, Inc., which also publishes TECH Edge and PC Upgrade magazines.
